Customer eligibility is based on Nebraska State Statute §83-145, “all departments, institutions, and agencies of this state which are supported in whole or in part by taxation for state purposes and all counties and other political subdivisions of this state shall purchase from the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services all articles required by them produced, printed, or manufactured by incarcerated men and women confined in facilities of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.”

WORKING PARTNERSHIPS WITH PRIVATE SECTOR INDUSTRIES

The Prison Industries Enhancement Certification Program (PIECP) is designed to place incarcerated men and women in a realistic work environment, pay them the prevailing local wage for similar work, and enable them to acquire marketable skills to increase their potential for successful rehabilitation and meaningful employment on release. 

Since 1987, CSI has been an active participant in the PIECP program. The goods produced by the incarcerated workers help offset the cost of their incarceration, compensate crime victims, and support incarcerated workers’ families. Our emphasis lies in seeking partnerships with private sector businesses that will:

• generate products and services that enable incarcerated men and women to make a contribution to society
• help offset the cost of their incarceration, compensate crime victims, and support their families
• reduce incarcerated men and women idleness
• increase incarcerated men and women job skills
• improve the prospects for successful incarcerated men and women transition to the community upon release

PICEP is a program of the Bureau of Justice Assistance of the US Department of Justice.

We offer the large-scale capacity to handle most workloads and simplify the entire process by offering FREE pickup and delivery, and we handle your garments with the utmost care and security.

Here’s how we deliver a higher standard of service:

• All-Inclusive Care: we wash, dry, iron, and fold all items to your exact specifications. Hand folding is available.
• Repairs and alterations to extend the life of your textiles, including a special sewing machine for towel edge repairs.
• Ready for use: We sort, count, stack, and shrink-wrap or hang your items before returning them, so they are ready for immediate use upon arrival.
• Hygiene standards: Your laundry is processed and delivered in covered transport carts, ensuring it remains clean and protected. Meeting CDC requirements and industry standards for hygiene and infection control.

FLOOR MAT SERVICE

CSI offers walk-off mat rental and washing services exclusive to our contract laundry customers only.
This additional service can be incorporated into the routine laundry pickup and delivery schedules.

CSI HISTORY

In 1886, the first industry shops were constructed. Those included a tailor shop, dry-cleaning shop, shoe shop [new and repairs], furniture factory, mattress shop, laundry shop, paint shop, tobacco shop, broom factory, dental laboratory [making dentures], large-scale farming, dairy operation, and cannery.

Many things used in the daily operations were made at the shops. Food items used for the incarcerated population, such as meat and milk, came from the farming operations within the state prison. 

The wicker rocking chair was made by the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) shop in 1920. While CSI does not make wicker items anymore, we still have a complete line of office furniture.
