The Nebraska Department of Corrections has three facilities which support inpatient care. The Diagnostic and Evaluation Center is licensed for 9 beds, Tecumseh State Correctional Institution is licensed for 10 beds, and the Nebraska State Penitentiary is licensed for 12 beds.
Primary Care Clinics
Physical and Speech Therapy
The Nebraska Department of Corrections offers various onsite specialty clinics. The following is an example of some of the clinics offered within the correctional setting.
Monthly visits are accomplished by a Neurologist at the various institutions within the Nebraska Department of Corrections.
- Infectious Diseases
Monthly visits are accomplished by an Infectious Disease specialist at the various institutions within the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
- Internal Medicine
Weekly visits are accomplished by an Internal Medicine physician at the various institutions within the Nebraska Department of Corrections.
- Hospice Care
All inmates within the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services are offered end of life support by Asera Care Hospice. Families are included with the service provided
by Asera Care Hospice to deal with the death and dying process.
Inmates with a diagnosis of cancer are offered chemotherapy under the supervision of an oncologist at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Nurses providing this service
are certified with the ONS and maintain a clinical competency for the administration of chemotherapy.
The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services offers home hemodialysis at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. This is with contractual agreement of the Dialysis Center
of Lincoln. The inmate as well as nursing staff is trained to perform the dialysis treatment. This provides the inmate with the Department of Correction vision point
of preparation for medical care once the inmate is discharged back to the community which he resides.
Visits are conducted by orthopedic surgeon at CCC-L, DEC, LCC, and NSP.
