Community centers work around COVID impact

Community centers offer transition from prison to home through greater freedom of movement and work opportunities. Individuals assigned to detail jobs make a daily rate and are working toward work release where they earn wages at jobs all over the city. On work release, individuals are required to pay a small daily maintenance fee, similar to room and board. As a result of COVID-19, employers have had to reduce hours or temporarily close, leaving individuals at community centers with significantly less or no income. Recognizing the impact of this loss of wages, NDCS implemented a process to temporarily suspend those daily maintenance fees for anyone laid off or terminated from their job due to COVID-19. This change ensures individuals do not incur costs they cannot afford and are able to maintain their savings for their transition home.
