NDCS Team Member Spotlight

This week we are highlighting our NDCS Corrections Leadership Scholarship Program students. While studying criminal justice at Peru State College, these students are gaining valuable hands-on experience to become the corrections leaders of tomorrow.

Myanmar, which was formerly known as Burma, is a southeastern Asian country and 8,056 miles of land and ocean separate it from Peru, Nebraska. Both places are home to a Corrections Leadership Scholarship Program student, Paw Wah.

Attending Peru State College, Wah was presented with a great opportunity to grow his passion for criminal justice as a part of the Corrections Leadership Scholarship Program, which provides scholarships to Peru State criminal justice students who are completing a degree while working at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) during the school year and summer. Developing students into leaders as employees of NDCS is the goal of the program.

“Being a part of the program means that I have a great opportunity to achieve my dream and reach my goal in the criminal justice program at Peru State College and my future career,” said Wah. “This program gives me a chance to work at TSCI to prepare for the reality of how the justice system works with the incarcerated population as well as help me gain more experiences.”

Wah looks forward to using the knowledge and skills he learned at the Staff Training Academy (STA) to work with the incarcerated population.
