A group at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) recently spread holiday cheer throughout the halls by singing a handful of Christmas carols. Unit residents were encouraged to sing along. Mental Health Practitioner Audrey Cornish said they hope to make this a holiday tradition at LCC.Read more

Central Office (CO) team members celebrated their fourth quarter recognition and awards ceremony on Dec. 7. In addition to the employee and supervisor of the quarter, Director Scott R. Frakes recognized one CO team member for five years of service, 12 team members for 10 years of service, one team member for 15 years of service, one team member for 20 years of service, one team member for 25 years of service and two team members for 40 years of service. When asked the greatest thing about working in corrections for 40 years, Records Manager Jimmy Dunn said "the employees." Congratulations, CO team members!Read more

Bassoons Across Nebraska performed to over 100 incarcerated men at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) on Dec. 18. The quartet is comprised of members of the Omaha and Lincoln Symphonies who seek to raise bassoon awareness by performing in unusual places. They perform a wide range of music – from classical to jazz, tangos to pop.Read more

In addition to their recent holiday party, team members at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) held a retirement party for Religious and Volunteer Coordinator Marilyn Asher. On Dec. 31, Asher will retire after 15 years of service to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS). For the ceremony, Asher invited back all of the volunteers she has worked with throughout the years. NCYF Warden Ryan Mahr recognized Asher with a retirement plaque, framed license plate, letter from NDCS Director Scott R. Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) team members have gotten into the giving spirit with a number of fundraisers this holiday season. Team members at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) collected donations of money and toys in partnership with the Lincoln Police Department’s (LPD) Santa Cop program. Santa Cop was started in 1980 to help the children of Lincoln who “fell through the cracks” of existing programs. LCC has partnered with LPD for the past three years. Team members at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) held their annual Holiday Potluck and Recognition Ceremony on Dec. 14. The Employees Activity Committee (EAC) hosted the event, which recognized all new hires, promotions and transfers throughout 2017. They also honored staff members who have served for five, 10 and 15 years. Following the recognition ceremony, the EAC sang "Twelve Corrections Days of the Holidays."Read more
