Setting an excellent example for others is something that Unit Manager Damon Gruber is known for by his team members. His willingness to assist with tasks, even at a moment’s notice is well appreciated by staff and inmates. With over two decades of experience working in corrections, Gruber is adaptable, remains calm under pressure and handles high-stress situations well. Gruber manages a housing unit at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) that houses mainly active seniors and older individuals. Team members note that his ability to control his emotions and stay calm in challenging times is linked to his performance and proficiency in managing his housing unit. For his efforts and level of commitment to NDCS, Gruber received the 2020 Proficiency Performance for the Operations Division at NSP.
