NSP inmate dies at hospital

December 27, 2019 (Lincoln, NE) – Mark Nielson #83595, age 64, died at 2:30 p.m. today at  Bryan Medical Center-West in Lincoln. He was incarcerated at the Nebraska State Penitentiary. Nielson’s sentence began on February 22, 2016. He was serving an 8- to 10-year sentence out of Douglas County for the distribution, manufacture and possession of methamphetamine, with the  intent to deliver. 

While the cause of death has yet to be determined, Nielson was being treated for a medical condition. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services, a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
