May 19, 2023 (Lincoln, Neb.) –  Michael Gunther #61937, age 67, died yesterday evening at the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC), where he was incarcerated.

Gunther’s sentence began on April 15, 2005. He was serving a life sentence on charges of first degree murder and use of a firearm to commit a felony, out of Sarpy County.

While the cause of death has not yet been determined, Gunther was being treated for a medical condition. As is the case whenever an inmate dies in the custody of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS), a grand jury will conduct an investigation.
