2019 NDCS Outstanding Ambassador: Geri Knight

Religious and Volunteer Coordinator Geri Knight received the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) Outstanding Ambassador Award on Friday, May 22, 2019, for her continuous effort to promote the credibility of not only the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) but NDCS as a whole. Knight was recognized for her efforts to go above and beyond every day – she assists case management, takes travel orders, is a SERVES team member, president of the EAC, and doesn’t hesitate to step up regardless of the situation.

“Ms. Knight is quick to recognize when someone is struggling and makes a genuine effort to offer a helping hand or lend a listening ear,” said Trish Bernhards, assistant warden of NCYF, who nominated her for the award. “She is constantly speaking with outside organizations explaining and supporting the mission of the facility and department in order to create awareness.”

“I didn’t start out the year with the intention to get this award,” said Knight. “I just set out to do what needed to be done. It’s not difficult to do what an ambassador does when you love your job like I do.”

“Ms. Knight is one of the best cheerleaders NDCS has,” said Bernhards.
