NDCS Team Member Spotlight: Cody Eastman

Team Member Spotlight: Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP) Lieutenant Cody Eastman received the Excellence in Leadership award at the Nebraska capitol this week. People who receive this award show leadership in different ways on a daily basis.

"Cody has a positive attitude and is willing to go out of his way to help new and senior staff.  He ensures that his staff have the tools they need provides a safe place for them to express concerns or present feedback about the facility. He is member of the Staff Empowerment & Resiliency/Victim Education & Support (SERVES) team that provides support to his teammates and takes the role to heart.  He truly cares about people and wants to make the workplace safe and enjoyable for everyone," said Major Elizabeth Stegeman.

Eastman said the number one thing he uses to help people is humor. "Humor is something that can always bring people together no matter what the situation is. If not humor, I would say I believe building trust, and that comes from years of working in corrections and always building trust because of the serious situations we could face on any given day."

Eastman said leadership is shown by your actions on a daily basis. "I have always been an individual that believes you must never be above anything and always be willing to do any job our facility needs to keep moving forward."

Congratulations to Lieutenant Eastman on your award!
