The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) SERVES Team participated in the first annual Staff Empowerment and Resiliency/Victim Education and Support (SERVES) Team Operations Training April 17 through 19. Twenty-fiveteam members, representing all NDCS facilities, gathered to train on the mission, goals and day-to-day operations of the SERVES Team. The Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility’s (NCYF) Employee Activity Committee (EAC) hosted the annual staff BBQ for Corrections Appreciation Month on May 9. Staff decided on a Hawaii theme and had a Hawaiian shirt contest. Food served included pulled pork, chicken wings, pasta salad, potato salad, chips, fruit salad, oreo fluff, peach cobbler and cookies. NCYF will host events every week throughout the month of May to recognize team members for the daily sacrifices they make to keep our community safe, and to show that they are appreciated.Read more

Four members of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) Honor Guard were recently invited to the Every Girl CAN (Choose, Advocate, Navigate) Conference. The team members spoke to middle-school girls about their professions and how to be safe. The girls, from Lincoln, Omaha and Kearney, also learned a few Level II Pressure Point Control Tactic (PPCT) skills.Read more

Lieutenant Rick Williams was recognized for 10 years of service with NDCS.

The Community Justice Center (CJC) completed its 16th Restorative Justice Victims Impact/Empathy life skills class at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI) on April 17. One-hundred percent of class participants rated the class excellent with 80 percent showing empathy and/or insight into the effects their actions have on their victims/community. "It helped me to better understand my continued responsibility and to stay on my path of giving back (repairing the harm I’ve caused)," one participant said.Read more

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Unit Case Worker Lucas Fields takes a phone call at the Community Corrections Center-Omaha (CCC-O). Fields has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2016. His main job duties include processing inmates in and out of the institution, conducting counts and searches and providing transportation when the need arises. “I'm always learning something new,” Fields said. “And there is always plenty to do.” #NDCSTeamMemberSpotlightRead more

Team members at the Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC) and Diagnostic and Evaluation Center (DEC) hosted a volunteer appreciation dinner in the LCC visiting room on April 30. Several volunteers attended the event, including Bill Hance, who was recognized as DEC’s Volunteer of the Year, and Roy Wolfer, LCC’s Volunteer of the Year. LCC’s Food Service team provided a lovely meal consisting of lemon pepper chicken, rice pilaf, asparagus and a choice of dessert.Read more
