CJC Completes 3 Restorative Justice Classes at DEC

On June 28, The Community Justice Center (CJC) completed three (3) 90 Minute “Emotional Hygiene/Anger” Sessions with twenty-seven incarcerated men at the Diagnostic and Evaluation Center. Ninety six percent of the class who participated rated the class “excellent" with eighty-six percent showing some level of insight into understanding the three sources of ANGER and their Emotional Hygiene (how to processing feelings). Two participants of the class said, "It helped to identity the feelings that triggered ANGER the reason most of us get into trouble," and "It helped me understand my problems better.”Read more

TSCI Garden Project

Since 2015, incarcerated men have cared for and maintained the garden at Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI). When asked about the garden, the men speak of how much they enjoy the work, and the sense of pride they feel when walking by the garden on the way to the ball field every day. Of the garden, one incarcerated individual describes the feeling, “When I’m out there I can focus [on my work], and not feel like an inmate.” So far this summer has been hot and the plants show it, so those who work the garden have developed an irrigation system to ensure all plants get the water they need. “We get innovative with it!”...Read more

IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Lieutenant Trent Garvin pat searches a member of the media prior to his visit to the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW). Garvin has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 2013. His job duties include running the day-to-day operations of second shift, managing staff, talking with incarcerated individuals and most importantly keeping people safe. LCC hosts first Facility Cook Out

The Lincoln Correctional Center (LCC), had its Facility Cook Out on July 3, 2018. The Food Services Management Team wanted the Institution to have a shared venue with staff and incarcerated individuals. The 4th of July was the greatest opportunity to ensure everyone was able to celebrate our freedom as Americans. Staff and inmates enjoyed sharing their grilling skills and were happy to cook. Our Menu included, Butterflied Chicken Breast, Roasted Corn on the Cob, a special Red, White , and Blue Jello Treat and Watermelon. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Administrative Assistant II to the Deputy Warden Anna Wright revises post orders at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution (TSCI). Wright began her career in September 2017 as an Office Clerk and was promoted to AAII in November 2017. Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) team members will be handing out these fans, answering questions and honoring those who work in corrections at the Lincoln Saltdogs game this coming Wednesday, Aug. 1. IN THE SPOTLIGHT: Maintenance Specialist Kevin Goodban paints trim at the Nebraska State Penitentiary (NSP). Goodban has been with the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) since 1996. His main job duties include fixing things throughout the facility, painting and maintaining the building. “I like the people I work with,” Goodban said. “I started as an officer and worked my way through.
