In the past year, this team has processed more than 10,000 pieces of mail to staff and the incarcerated population at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC). In recognition of their excellent teamwork, Office Technician Jessica Kohl (left) and Mail/Material Specialist Tina Tyler were recently chosen as the OCC Operations Person of the Year. Both team members do an excellent job ensuring the delivery of mail to the appropriate locations throughout OCC. Women at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) recently completed training with Dance To Be Free, an organization whose mission is to radically improve the lives of incarcerated women by addressing lifelong trauma through the healing power of dance.

In this transformative experience, these women learned the nuts and bolts of choreography, pro-social skills and group dynamics. The graduates left ready to make an impact on their environment and offer support to their peers.

Corporal (Cpl.) Noah White was a recipient of the Team Member of the Year Award for 2021. Cpl. White completes his daily duties efficiently and is able to assist other team members when needed. Facility Maintenance Specialist Isaac Berry was a recipient of the Excellence in Mentoring Award at the NDCS Annual Awards. Berry is a Field Training Officer (FTO), assists new team members during FTO week and volunteers to instruct training during in-service at the Staff Training Academy.

Berry provides excellent peer-to-peer mentoring. New team members and veterans all trust Berry for his positivity, guidance and extensive knowledge. This month, author and international speaker Baron Warren encouraged men at four NDCS facilities to cross the finish line with his message “from males, to MEN.” His bold speaking style and tough love approach left the men challenged and inspired for greatness.

Author of the book, "The 5 Steps to Manhood," Warren speaks a message of life and hope to audiences across the country. He presented at the Community Correctional Center—Lincoln, the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility, the Nebraska State Penitentiary and the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution.
