Nineteen mid-managers graduated from the 40-hour Leadership Academy on Oct. 27. This training provides participants the opportunity to learn from and interact with agency leaders in a meaningful way through coaching sessions, role plays, guest lectures and a leadership panel. One of the main tasks throughout the week involved developing action plans to take back to each institution. The Community Justice Center completed its 81st Restorative Justice – Victims Impact/Empathy (Life Skills) class for restrictive housing at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women on Oct. 18. One-hundred percent of participants rated the class as excellent. "I learned about how I hurt others in my community," one participant said.Read more

Incarcerated youth at the Nebraska Correctional Youth Facility (NCYF) held a talent show on Oct. 17. The show was centered around The Pen Project, a quarterly art magazine that gives voices to the incarcerated. Not only did the talent show feature poems, stories, art and musical talent from the NCYF population, but also from volunteers in the community.Read more

Over 60 incarcerated women participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure Nebraska at the Nebraska Correctional Center for Women (NCCW) on Oct. 15. This was NCCW's fifth year taking part in the fundraiser, and the group raised over $900.Read more
